... as I'm sure you've heard. I went to Allpar and saw this throwback to the first military Jeeps.
Looks neat, very much picks up the old-school, function-over-form aesthe—-
Wait, what? Why the fuck is the axe mounted with the blade facing upward??
*facepalm*

It's a jeep thing
BmanUltima's car still hasn't been fixed yet, he'll get on it tomorrow, honest.

Why isn't the axe and shovel mounted on the hood?

Exactly, or at least oriented in such a manner as to prevent accidentally cutting oneself.

I dunno, I mean they built it as a staff car, probably for shuttling auto-journos around the camp area during their Easter Moab thing. So the likelyhood of many people getting in and out of this thing all day is pretty high. On a vehicle that was only made to look like a vintage Jeep, I get that the axe and shovel probably aren't even removable, and are only for looks. I doubt the axe is even sharpened; its probably dull specifically to avoid some drunken web-show host from gouging his calf when he slips on the rail.
But there's an OCD part of me that gets frustrated when something so simple is passed off like this. The guys who received a raw Wrangler and were paid to make it look functional; this tells me that "look" was the operative term.
This is a fake hood scoop moment. This is a non-functional, 3M-backed, chromed plastic fender portal. I'm not a Jeep apologist, either, it's just annoying as hell. I'm not even a big Jeep guy; I own the least Jeepish of the Jeep family.

You've pretty much hit the nail on the head.
Jeep has been notoriously useless in recent years.

Mm hmm, yes, I see. But also, those blades are not in a part of the vehicle highly likely to get stepped on, AND the blades at least have a leather strap covering them.
If the customizer was going for true authenticity, then they half-assed it.

meh, you'd have to really try and cut yourself.

If they were going for true authenticity, then they would have started with a 2-door wrangler. Also the axe isn't in a place where it is highly likely to be stepped on, notice the bottom of the B-pillar is still there guarding it.

I know, i just see the potential for something bad happening there. I should really work for OSHA.

It's fine where it's at and probably will have a silicon cap on it.
